Calvary Bible Church - Beliefs
What makes Calvary Bible Distinctive?
Focusing Upward ~ Ministering Inward ~ Reaching Outward
We are an independent, non-denominational church that believes that God’s Word (not the church, not tradition, not our opinions), should be the sole source for all that we believe and practice. That is why our church name is Calvary BIBLE Church. We believe in focusing upward (giving God His due glory), reaching outward (being a gospel driven church) and ministering inward (growing and being rooted in God’ Word).
God-Centered (Focusing Upward):
It is our belief that the call of God is to make much more of Jesus Christ than man and his problems. Indeed, the Bible cautions us that the answers to man’s problems are not found by focusing on the problems, but rather by continuously “seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Colossians 2-3). Jesus Christ is our life, our all-in-all. Therefore, much of our teaching and preaching focuses primarily on who God is and who we are in Christ because we now belong to Him.
Bible Based (Ministering Inward):
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as being verbally inspired by God and inerrant and infallible in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority.
Mission Minded (Reaching Outward):
All Christians are commanded by God and compelled by His Spirit to minister to all people – those in our own church and neighborhood and those farther away. Calvary Bible Church is as part of our central theme a mission minded church as evidenced by our giving and our going into our neighborhoods, towns, cities and around the globe in our missionary programs. Through our Faith Promise offerings, our local projects and our mission trips we hope to make a difference in individual lives, families and communities.
Elder Led and Deacon Served:
We believe the New Testament model for church leadership is that a plurality of biblically qualified men (cf. 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) should supply spiritual leadership and direction to the local church. Calvary has such men including our Pastor. We also believe that the Bible has ordained deacons to serve the needs of the people and handle the business of the church.
